Poodle Care
The Basics Of Poodle Care
Poodle care can be easy if you know the basics. But
depending on the level of grooming your poodle's cut requires
for maintained, it can greatly increase time spent caring
for your poodle.
The three basics of poodle care are diet, grooming and
training. In this article I will discuss the specifics of
each area to maintain your poodle's health.
Diet and Poodle Care
If you want your poodle to live a long and healthy
life, then you must give them a great diet.
A great diet is one where the primary ingredient is
meat. If you look on a bag of dog food and look
at what the first ingredient is, it had better be some
type of meat. If it is some type of grain, then buy
a different kind of dog food. Quality dog foods have
meat as the primary ingredient.
It is important you feed a dry hard food to your
poodle. If you feed a wet food, carter can build up
in the mouth quicker resulting in dental
disease.
When feeding the diet, only offer it twice a day, don't let
the food bowl be available all day, otherwise your poodle
could become obese. Obesity is one of the leading
diseases of dogs right now because people over feed their
dogs way too much.
Did you know that for a fact, dog owners spend more
money on dog treats than on nutritious dog food.
Grooming and Poodle Care
If you are not going to show your poodle, grooming your
poodle will be much easier because you can just shave the coat
with a clippers.
But if you are going to show your dog you will spend a lot
more time and money maintaining their coat. In fact for
show poodles it takes several hours a week to maintain some
cuts.
At a minimum you should brush out your poodle a couple
of times a week.
Another aspect of grooming people over look is trimming dog
nails. You should keep your poodle's nails short enough
so that when they walk they are not putting any pressure on
them.
Training and Poodle Care
Training your poodle should begin as soon as you bring them
home. Potty training your poodle is the first
form of training they receive.
Poodles are very intelligent and actually learn potty
training very quickly, much quicker than most dogs so this
should not be a problem.
Once they have mastered potty training you can then teach
them basic commands like sit, stay, and fetch.
Having a well trained dog is very basic poodle care.
In fact training your dog do properly behave is almost as vital
as giving them fresh clean water everyday.
