Standard Poodle Rescue Tips

If you are thinking about getting involved in Standard Poodle rescue here are some tips to think about to help you get the most out of the experience and not be overwhelmed.

First of all decide how much time, money, and effort you want to put in.  There is an endless amount of all those resources needed when rescuing poodles, so you have to learn to pace yourself.  I know you may want to try and save all dogs, but you need to take care of yourself.

The easiest way to get started in Standard Poodle rescues is to find an existing group in your area.  This is a very specific interest, so there may not be one in your area.  If this is the case, contact other dog rescues in the area, and alert them to the fact that you would be available to rescue a standard poodle if one came in.

You could also start your own dog rescue as well.  Sometimes this is better, if the dog rescues in your area are run by dominant personalities who seem to be very demanding.

Money:

Rescuing Standard Poodles can be expensive so decide on a budget to spend or find a vet clinic willing to help out.  Rescued dogs tend to need a lot of medical attention, so be prepared for this expense.  Remember when you accept this dog you are also accepting financial responsibility for it.

Time:

Don’t take time away from your family to rescue dogs.  Many people end up spending so much time in this activity that their family life starts to suffer.  The other option would be to get family members involved in this activity as well.

Effort:

Only take dogs you know you can help.  You may find that you want to start rescuing all types of dogs not just Standard Poodles.  This could be a huge mistake because the level of care you can provide to each dog will go down and might not be enough for them.

Summary:

Standard Poodle Rescue can be fun and rewarding.  Remember to set limits for yourself and stick to them.  Doing a great job with one dog is better than doing a poor job with 5 dogs.
