Poodle Breeds
10 Types of Poodles
How many poodle breeds are there? Well, it seems like
there are new varieties every year. Here we cover some of
the more common poodle breeds.
Types Of Poodle
The American Kennel Club recognizes three sizes of
poodle. They are considered on breed, but are available
in the three different sizes.
Standard Poodle
AKC breed standard says this dog must be over 15 inches at
the whithers (shoulder).
Miniature Poodle
AKC breed standard for this size says the dog must be over
10 inches but not over 15 inches tall at the shoulders
Toy Poodle
AKC breed standard for this size says the dog must not be
over 10 inches tall at the shoulders.
Royal Standard, Teacup, and Tiny Teacup
The terms Royal Standard, Teacup, and Tiny Teacup poodles
are terms used by breeders for marketing purposes only and are
not recognized by the AKC.
Other Poodle Breeds and Poodle Hybrids
Using the term hybrid to refer to the crossing of two dogs
is incorrect since they are the same species. The correct
term is crossbreeds.
Here are some common poodle breeds:
Cockapoo, Spoodle
Made by crossing a poodle with a Cocker Spaniel
Goldendoodles
Made by crossing a poodle with a Golden Retriever
Labradoodle
Made by crossing a poodle with a Labrador Retriever.
This was created by Wally Conron in hopes of producing a
hypoallergenic guide dog.

Summary
Remember there are no poodle breeds, there is only one
poodle breed. All other poodle breeds are simply
crossbreeds.
The AKC only recognizes the Poodle breed, but in three
sizes, Standard, Miniature, and Toy.
